Two Children and a Small Miracle

My mother had been working a tough cleaning job all week for just 8 euros a day.

The work was hard, physically demanding, and more than she could handle at her age.

Every evening, she came home sore and exhausted, repeating how much she was looking forward to quitting. But she didn’t want to let down the young woman who had hired her.

So she pushed through, day after day, telling herself she’d finish the week and then politely say she couldn’t continue.

By Friday, her last day, she was at her limit — drained in body and spirit. As she was cleaning, her arms heavy and her breath short, something unexpected happened.

A little girl, maybe 11 years old, came over and asked sweetly:

“Señora, do you want me to help you?”

Surprised, my mom looked at her and smiled.

“You want to help me clean?” she asked.“Yes!” the girl said cheerfully. “I love cleaning windows.”

And just like that, the girl picked up a cloth and started scrubbing alongside her. She wasn’t told to do it.

She wasn’t looking for anything in return. She simply wanted to help.

A few minutes later, the girl’s brother came over too.“What are you doing?” he asked.

“Helping her clean. Come help me,” she said, laughing.

The two of them cleaned the windows together while chatting with my mom, who could barely believe what was happening.

At one point, the girl said, “When I turn 13, my mom is going to take me on a trip to Argentina. I’ve always wanted to go.”

My mom listened, smiling through tears she didn’t want to show. She felt seen. She felt held. In her moment of deepest exhaustion, help had arrived in the form of two little angels.

I don’t believe in coincidences. I believe in divine timing. I believe that when a heart is tired but full of love, the universe responds — sometimes through the laughter of children and the sparkle of a clean window.
